Note: The larger wand can become
tiring and heavy with a lot of use. If wrapping
lots of small items, bath bombs, soap bars,
tins, CDs, DVDs, etc., get the 14" or 18"
system.
This system most typically
includes 100ga PVC, as it's the primary choice
of our professional basketers. "Doubling" the
film for oversized items (make a bag almost 4
FEET HIGH!) is both recommended and
encouraged! You CAN use a smaller roll of film
on a larger system, so if you want to pick up a
second, smaller roll, (typically, 18" 75ga 500')
you can use that roll for your smaller, lighter
items, saving your heavy, wider film for when
more appropriate.
For basketing, and gift items,
we recommend you select 100ga PVC. For bundling
items together, paper products, matted prints,
food products, we recommend polyolefin. In all

PVC Shrink Film - For Manual,
semi-automatic and automatic equipment
Crystal clear,
glossy film, very "crisp", suitable for general packaging and the best
film available for basketing (100ga for large baskets,
75ga for small baskets & trays). 100% recyclable. FDA Approved for
direct contact with food.
Matching
your film to the items you’ll most often
be wrapping helps optimize your
packaging experience. There are many
varieties of film on the market. While
they’re largely interchangeable,
specific tasks or specific products may
require a specific film.
The
smaller the gauge number of the film,
the thinner the film. For most general
applications, 75 gauge will suffice. In
applications where strength is of
particular concern, large baskets, heavy
and bulky multi-packs etc., you'll want
to consider 100 gauge film. There are
two types of film that predominate,
Polyolefin and PVC. Both
types of film that we carry are FDA-approved for
direct contact for food. Not all PVC
shrink film is.
Most films
you see are 40-40's. That is, they
shrink 40% in each direction...exerting
pressure on the package as you shrink
it. Most items from baskets to CD's can
be wrapped with this type film.
If you
need to wrap a softer, less rigid item,
the pressure will cause it to warp
and/or ripple if you wrap it with
traditional shrink-wrap. To wrap this
type of item there is limited shrink
films, 10-10's. They only shrink
approximately 25% compared to typical
shrinks. This exerts much less pressure
on your packages making it suitable for
soft, pliable items like mouse pads,
magazines, photos etc. Limited shrink is
available in both Polyolefin and PVC.
There are special films available for
specific applications. SSXP40, for
example, stops shrinking as soon as it
encounters resistance.

Suggested Application Guide
Polyolefin...
Cold Processed Soap.....60
gauge or 75 gauge Polyolefin.
60 gauge has better "Smell Through" but is a
little harder to work with. This is best with Goat's Milk, Milk Soaps and High
Superfat Soaps because it breathes better.
75 gauge is easier to work with and works great
with most CP soaps. Most Popular.
Melt & Pour (Glycerin) Soap.....75
gauge or 100 gauge Polyolefin.
Use no less than 75 gauge film. The thicker the
film the more it resists the "wet spots" that plague M&P wrapping. These "wet
spots" can leave "blisters" or bubbles on the thinner gauge film. 100 gauge will
eliminate most of the bubbles. It's harder to cut, and takes longer to shrink,
but will give your M&P bars a relatively smooth, wrinkle-free finish. It is a
little harder for the customer to remove. In very humid, outdoors conditions
such as fairs, festivals, etc.,100 gauge will help protect your soap from
sweating.
Bath Bombs......75 gauge
Polyolefin.
75 gauge Polyolefin is generally best.
Multi-bar Samplers and
Promotions......75 gauge Polyolefin.
If you are bundling several full
bars or sample bars 60 gauge is too thin.
Baskets.....75 gauge and
100 gauge PVC.
75 gauge is good for small baskets and gift sets.
Rule of thumb 12" (31cm) in diameter and under. 100 gauge for larger baskets,
trays, heavy objects.
Candles.....75 gauge
PVC.
75 gauge PVC is the best. Most Chandler's prefer
non-perforated but we do carry perforated upon request. Just note this in the
comments section of your order.
Perforated Film.....All Gauges and Types.
We can provide perforated film in all of our
gauges and in both Polyolefin and PVC. Just note this in the comments section of
your order.
100 Gauge Polyolefin, 500' Roll,
is available upon request. Note this in your comments section of the order.
Polyolefin
is a very strong, puncture-resistant
shrink film that's FDA approved for
direct food contact. It has a matte
finish, clear, very soft and flexible,
yields to pressure, resists breakage and
allows scents and smells to come
through.
It is very effective for
wrapping irregularly-shaped items and
items with sharp edges or corners.
Polyolefin is softer than PVC, feels
like a plastic bag, and because it's
acid-free, makes it especially suited
for matted prints, artwork, photos,
cards, scrapbooking and all paper
products. If you plan on bundling or
multi-packing you might want to consider
it as well.
PVC...
For
manual, semi-automatic and automatic
equipment. Traditional PVC is known for
it's crystal clear, glossy, crisp look,
its reflective shine and high clarity.
This film comes in Centerfold (film is
two layers that is folded on one side
and open on another like a "<" (or
Tubular (like a pillowcase, sealed on
both sides and open like a tube on the
other sides)
Our
traditional PVC is FDA approved for
direct food contact (NOT ALL PVC
FORMULAS ARE!). Choose traditional PVC
to prevent color bleed and smells
escaping. This industry favorite is
great for CD's, DVDs, VHS, candles and
to overwrap most packages on a variety
of machines or equipment.
This is
particularly good for wrapping gift
baskets and trays. 100 gauge for big
basket and trays or 75 gauge for smaller
baskets and trays.
It is beautifully
clear and is crisp enough to wrap a
basket with a spray of film on top like
wrapping a basket with cello.
The
difference being that you can clearly
see what is in the basket as opposed to
trying to look through the folds of
cello to try to figure out what is in
the basket.
